Siting Approval - Temporary Structures, Tents and Marquees.

Occupancy Permits

If you are planning to erect a temporary structure, tent, marquee or stage within your local municipality then you need to be aware of your responsibilities and obligation under the Building Act 1993, the Building Regulations 2006 and local Council policies.

If the temporary structure is either one or a combination of the following structures, then you may need to apply to the local Municipal Building Surveyor for a Siting Approval for a temporary structure.

A temporary structure includes and is not limited to:

• A Tent, marquee or booth with a floor area greater than 100 square metres.
• A stage or platform exceeding 150 square metres
• A seating stand that accommodates more than 20 persons; or
• A pre-fabricated building 100 square metres

At Harts Party Hire all our temporary structures over 100 square metres comply with the requirements of an Occupancy Permit.

An Occupancy Permit may require the supply of fire extinguishers, emergency exit signs and sufficient toilet facilities.

Harts Party Hire will also provide a Certificate of Compliance when all requirements are met and when the structure is inspected at the completion of construction for a modest fee.

Fees and Charges:

Each Council has their own scale of fees and charges applicable for use of Parks and Gardens and for Siting Approvals for Temporary Structures.
